When: Friday, Nov. 27th 2015, 4-8PM Where: Ten Thousand Villages 6417 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115
Are you someone who finds yourself daydreaming about Black Friday deals in the middle of July? Or would you rather fill yourself again to the brim with turkey than brave the craziness of Black Friday?
Regardless of how you choose to spend this Friday, I hope you will support New Dawn Guatemala by stopping by 10,000 Villages Fair Trade Gift Store between 4 PM-8 PM to help us in our effort to provide vital solidarity to the ex-refugee community of Nuevo Amanecer Guatemala, while also scoring some great holiday gifts! Ten Thousand Village provides a positive alternative to sweatshop-produced products by featuring fair trade gifts from around the world and will give us a portion of the proceeds from all sales garnered during that time.
New Dawn Guatemala will provide live music, a prize giveaway with homemade baked goods, a table with many Latin American handicrafts, as well as literature and information about the important progress taking place in the unique, social justice-based community of Nuevo Amanecer, Guatemala.
Your support at this event will help us to continue to provide crucial solidarity in the form of leadership and economic development training for youth leaders, scholarships and job training for students who couldn’t otherwise afford it (34 individual scholarships this year with plans to expand next year), as well as continued support for historical teach -ins and festivals which keep alive the memory of Nuevo Amanecer’s heroic and historic role as a community of resistance committed to implementing social justice principals.
So whether you embrace the Black Friday deals or do everything to avoid the craziness, we would love it if you could stop by Friday and get your holiday gifts while supporting a good cause!
Your support for our ongoing efforts to repair a little bit of the massive damage done to Guatemala‘s people as a result of US government and corporate actions is crucial at this time and greatly appreciated.
